With experts based throughout the UK we can offer competitive prices and in November 2024 are able to test your surface very quickly.
All facility owners have a duty of care to carry out the appropriate testing for their floors in November 2024. As per the āWorkplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992ā Act they make it a requirement for local authorities, building owners and facilities managers to make sure that the flooring or surface of the traffic path is not slippery so there is no danger of injury to anybody.
SlipTestingFloors are UK specialists in impartial & Independent Floor Pendulum Testing and Expert Witness Services with tests conducted to BS 7976-2 / BS 13036-4.
We work nationwide in the UK with slip testers to help carry out these slip resistance tests at competitive prices.
We offer high-quality slip tests and are more than happy in assisting you on anything you need more information on.
Statistics from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) show that slips and trips are responsible for, on average:
With 95% of major slips resulting in broken bones, the average cost of a slip claim is Ā£14K and in some cases considerably more.
Slip Testing Floors is a UK surface testing house.
Our wealth of experience and valuable knowledge of different flooring systems allows us to offer independent expert slip testing services & advice to contractors, property owners and end users.

Slip Testing Floors offer a mobile BS7976-2 slip testing across the UK. All of our test equipment is modern and regularly calibrated and manufactured in the UK.
All of our on site slip testing is carried out in line with The HSE Slip Resistance guidelines.
The slip resistance of floor surface materials are often classified on the basis of āDIN standardsā, which is a European Standard of Testing widely used and adopted by the UK for āFloor Slipperiness Classificationā.
We carry out pendulum slip testing services throughout The UK. We have the ability to carry out tests for any type of surface in any type of environment or industry. Here are some popular areas we carry out slip tests:
We carry out pendulum slip tests to the following flooring specifications:
All of our consultants use the latest equipment manufactured in the UK and are fully trained and qualified to test to BS7976. Rest assured we issue test reports within 48 hours after completion. The insitu slip testing will be carried out with the utmost confidence and integrity.

The R9 to R13 Rating for Shod Feet (and an ABC Rating for Bare Feet) are values that the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), architects, floor specifiers, builders and YOU can use to determine the āslip resistanceā of a surface before purchasing flooring. The British Standard and HSE approved Pendulum test will give an effective and specific read across to the ārangeā of R Values testing to determine equivalent R ratings.
The Floor R Rating values are determined by DIN 51130 āRamp Testingā to identify when a person walking will slip and fall. The method is to determine when a person slips whilst wearing heavily cleated EN:ISO 20345 Safety Boots shod with a sole and heel of a specific rubber hardness and with the floor contaminated with motor oil.
These R ratings relate to the typically non portable DIN51130 Standard Floor RAMP Test (the āRā relates to the āRā in Ramp Test). The Ramp Test works by a specific floor type to be tested being fixed to a ramp and oil (For Shod Feet) is applied to the ramp. The ramp is then raised and the human test subject walks in small steps backwards and forwards wearing boots until they slip on the floor (the tester is attached to a safety harness to prevent slip injury). The computerised readout then determines the R ratings based on the angle of slip. Note – the values start at R9 which is the LOWEST slip resistance R Rating (NOT at R1 as might be believed); the R Ratings then progress through increasing values to the HIGHEST floor slip resistance at R13.
R9 is the lowest rating and should not be used outdoors or in wet environments. The R9 has a small degree of slip resistance and scores between 11-18 on the PTV (pendulum test value).
r10 slip resistance
R10 anti slip ratings will provide minor to moderate resistance to slipping, making them ideal for use in hallways, kitchens, and other living spaces including bathrooms. The R10 scores between 18-34 on the PTV (pendulum test value).
An r11 slip rating provides moderate resistance to slips and can be deemed safe for use in almost any interior space. This includes kitchens, bathrooms, and even dedicated wetrooms. The R11 scores between 34-51 on the PTV (pendulum test value).
An r12 slip rating provides good resistance to slips and can be deemed safe for installations including bathrooms, kitchens, porches, hallways, cloakrooms, utility rooms and living rooms. The R12 scores between 51-70 on the SRV (slip resistance value).
An r13 slip rating provides highest resistance to slips and can be deemed very safe for all installations. The R13 scores between 70+ on the SRV (slip resistance value).
We strictly follow the methods procedures guidelines within BS 7976 at all of our insitu slip testing contracts.
BS 7976 is the preferred methodology for slip testing and is endorsed by The HSE which consists of using a Portable Pendulum Skid Tester of which we prefer to be manufactured in the UK.
The Pendulum testing machine measures the coefficient of friction (or resistance to slip accidents) of flooring surfaces in situ. The Pendulum Test is part of a British Standard, BS 7976: Parts 1-3, 2002.
There has been endless hazards reported in the UK for slippery surfaces including:
It is always better to be safe and regularly have your surface areas maintained and tested to be a safe environment.
Here are some other tests we can carry out on your flooring:
The levels of the flooring can be tested with Straight Edge Tests to check the Surface Regularity. A 2m straight edge is placed in contact with the floor to measure the greatest gap from the underside of the straight edge, between the points which are in contact with the floor surface. This is done by means of a ‘go’ ‘no go’ method.
British standards specify the maximum permissible deviation for different applications, and this can be measured as the deviation from a straightedge laid level on the screed surface. Our floor flatness tests can be carried out nationwide in the UK.
An industrial floor is required to have a suitable flatness in order to offer an appropriate surface area for the operation of MHE (Materials Handling Equipment), & a suitable level to ensure that the structure as a whole, with all of its static equipment & MHE can work efficiently. A vital requirement for the safe & efficient operation of narrow aisle forklift trucks is a high standard of floor flatness.
The Abrasion & Wear Testing Services is used to test the abrasive resistance of solid materials. The intent of abrasion testing is to produce data that will reproducibly rank materials in their resistance to scratching abrasion under a specified set of conditions.
Abrasion resistance is a property that allows a material to resist wear. The abrasion resistance of a material helps to withstand mechanical action and tends to protect the removal of materials from its surface.
We can carry out abrasion testing and wear & tear tests on all commercial floors in the UK.
We can run a surface microroughness test. This identifies the roughness of the floor finish. By taking a simple Rz parameter, changes in floor profile, or floors profiles ability to deal with wet surface contamination can be identified.
A roughness tester, also referred to as roughness gauge or roughness meter, is a portable device that is used to quickly and easily measure the surface roughness (surface finish) of an object.
We are able to carry out all Surface Microroughness Testing requirements at your facility.
Slip testing in shopping centres is usually carried out in accordance with BS 7976-2 and is performed in both wet and dry conditions by a qualified slip test engineer using a pendulum slip test device such as the Munro or Wessex equipment.
It is very important that you prove due diligence in order to avoid costly litigation should a slip accident occur on your premises. You have to provide the court with evidence that you took every measure to ensure that the public areas and workplaces were safe, before you let people walk on these floors.
We can provide our slip resistance testing service to a wide range of industries. For a small one-time fee, we will test the floor surfaces in your premise, and then give you a detailed report back. This report will be evidence that you have performed your due diligence to make sure that the people of the public are safe on your premise.
Recognised by the Health and Safety Executive the pendulum slip testing (BS7976) is recognised as a reliable and robust floor test. This test provides accurate analysis on the slip potential of all types of flooring. This slip testing can usually be portrayed barefeet and/or shod foot and is completed in both wet and dry conditions.
